Aluminium Gravity casting is also referred to as Aluminium Gravity Die casting, Chill casting or Permanent Mould casting. The melted Aluminium Alloy is poured into the mould at approx 750 C by means of gravity via a launder or ladle. The pouring rate is relatively low, yet the metal mould produces rapid solidification. Aluminium gravity casting can be operated either by hand or by gravity casting machines. Nowadays, tilt pouring method is being increasingly used to achive higher yield and lower rejection.
The die used in Permanent Mould process is usually made of Graded C.I or sometimes S.G Iron, and the die life is upwards of 75,000 pcs. For Zinc Gravity Die casting (Zamak 12/ Zamak 27) dies made from special grades of Graphite are also used, with lower machining time and costs.
